Run AnyDB Locally

AnyDB can be installed on your computer directly from a supported web browser. AnyDB uses Progressive Web App (PWA) technology, so there is no separate installer to download.

Once installed, AnyDB opens in its own window and can be launched from your desktop, Start menu, taskbar, Dock, or application launcher.

The installed web app connects to app.anydb.com and requires an internet connection. It does not install an AnyDB server or store your AnyDB workspace only on your computer.

This is different from the AnyDB Desktop App, which provides local file editing and Record Folder synchronization.

Before You Begin​

Use a Chromium-based browser that supports installing web apps, such as:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Another Chromium-based browser with PWA support

You also need an AnyDB account and access to app.anydb.com.

Install Using Google Chrome​

  1. Open app.anydb.com in Google Chrome.
  2. Sign in to your AnyDB account.
  3. Click the Install icon on the right side of the address bar.
  4. Click Install to confirm.

If the install icon is not visible:

  1. Open the Chrome menu (⋮).
  2. Select Cast, save, and share.
  3. Select Install page as app.
  4. Click Install.

Install Using Microsoft Edge​

  1. Open app.anydb.com in Microsoft Edge.
  2. Sign in to your AnyDB account.
  3. Open the Edge menu (⋯).
  4. Select Apps.
  5. Select Install this site as an app.
  6. Click Install.

Edge may also display an App available icon on the right side of the address bar. Select this icon to install AnyDB.

Install Using Another Chromium-Based Browser​

  1. Open app.anydb.com in the browser.
  2. Sign in to your AnyDB account.
  3. Look for an install icon in the address bar or an app installation option in the browser menu.
  4. Follow the browser prompts to install AnyDB.

Menu names and installation options may differ between browsers.

Open the Installed AnyDB Web App​

Open AnyDB from your operating system's application list or from a shortcut created during installation. You can pin it to your taskbar, Start menu, Dock, or application launcher for quick access.

The installed app uses the same AnyDB account, permissions, workspaces, and data as the browser version. Browser-managed updates are applied automatically.

Manage the Installed App​

Chrome and Edge provide controls for installed web apps. Depending on your browser and operating system, you may be able to:

  • Create desktop or application-menu shortcuts
  • Pin AnyDB to your taskbar or Dock
  • Allow AnyDB to open automatically when you sign in to your computer
  • Manage notifications and site permissions
  • Open the current page in a browser tab

Open the app menu in the installed AnyDB window to find the available controls.

Uninstall the Installed App​

  1. Open the installed AnyDB web app.
  2. Open the app or browser menu.
  3. Select Uninstall AnyDB, Uninstall, or Remove app.
  4. Confirm the removal.

The exact option depends on your browser and operating system.

Uninstalling the web app does not delete your AnyDB account or data. You can continue to access AnyDB at app.anydb.com.

Troubleshooting​

The Install Icon Is Not Available​

  • Confirm that you are using Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or another browser that supports installing PWAs.
  • Open app.anydb.com directly rather than in a private or incognito window.
  • Check the browser menu for Install page as app or a similar option.
  • Update your browser and try again.

AnyDB Opens in a Browser Tab​

  • Launch AnyDB from the shortcut created during installation instead of from a bookmark.
  • Reinstall the web app if its shortcut no longer opens the standalone window.
  • Check the installed app's menu for an option to open links in the app.

The Installed App Does Not Load​

  • Confirm that your computer is connected to the internet.
  • Open app.anydb.com in a normal browser tab to check whether the site is available.
  • Sign in again if your AnyDB session has expired.
  • Clear the site data for app.anydb.com, then sign in and reinstall the app if the problem continues.

Frequently Asked Questions​

Can I Use the Installed App Offline?​

An internet connection is required to sign in and work with AnyDB data. The installed web app is a dedicated window for the hosted AnyDB service, not an offline AnyDB server.

Is This the Same as AnyDB Desktop?​

No. The installed web app provides the full AnyDB web interface in its own window. The AnyDB Desktop App is a separate companion app for editing AnyDB files in desktop applications and synchronizing records with local folders.

Do I Need Administrator Access?​

Browser-installed web apps usually install for the current user and do not require administrator access. Your organization's browser or device policies may restrict installation.

Will Uninstalling It Delete My Data?​

No. Your AnyDB data remains in your AnyDB account and is still available at app.anydb.com.
