Record Actions
Automation actions can change an existing record or create the next connected piece of work.
Update an existing record
An Update Record action changes fields on the triggering record or another identified record. Use it for consistent status, assignment, date, or value changes. Values can be fixed or derived from trigger and previous-action data.
Update only what the workflow owns. Broad updates can overwrite user work or cause other automations to run.
Create a connected record
A Create Record action can generate a task, approval, inspection, or other follow-up record. Choose its Type and parent location, map the fields it needs, and add a Reference back to the source when both records should remain independently traceable.
Later actions can use the newly created record's output—for example, to update it or include its link in a notification. Test both kinds of action with sample records, and make sure retries cannot create duplicate follow-up records.
