Adding and Organizing Cells
Cells are the building blocks of a Type. Each cell provides a place for a value, label, calculation, file, relationship, or other record content.
Adding a cell
The Type Designer works like a spreadsheet and you can move around the record layout with your arrow keys or by clicking on a cell. Click on Add Field and you can then select the type of cell you want to add.
Set a Name for the cell
Once you have added the cell, you can either hit F2 keyboard shortcut or open the properties panel on the right and change the cell label to something that is unique like 'Customer Name' etc.
Group related information
Organize cells according to how someone reads and completes the record:
- put the most important identifying information first
- keep related fields together
- separate overview information from operational details
- place occasional or advanced fields later in the layout
- use headings and labels to make each section easy to scan
In the Type Designer, you can insert rows and columns, move or copy cells, and change row, column, or cell spans. Use that flexibility to create a clear structure, not simply to fill every available space.
